Cookbooks as Therapy

Cookbooks_1

So remember the other day when I mentioned The Cooks' Library?  I had to go back today.

Applesforjam_1 I had a meeting nearby, and I couldn't get Apples for Jam out of my head.  It's a gorgeously designed book, with an enticing mix of memories, prose, and recipes.  I hope the recipes are as good as the book is beautiful - but if not, it was worth it for the photography.

Other books I purchased:
Arabesque. A Taste of Morocco, Turkey and Lebanon, Claudia Roden
Counter Intelligence.  Where to Eat in the Real Los Angeles, Jonathan Gold
Madhur Jaffrey's World Vegetarian
The Silver Palate Good Times Cookbook, Julee Rosso

I'm a firm believer in cookbook therapy--there's something really soothing about curling up with a book of recipes, and if there's wonderful writing along with them, so much the better.

Oohh....my husband just bought me Arabesque as well, and I'm so frustrated I'm too busy to cook anything this week!! There's a sweet potato salad I think I'll try Sat night though. I think I need to plan a trip to Morocco!

I'm getting depressed at the predictable nature of my cookbook therapy combined with the fact that I read and digest them- but don't actually cook from them!

I think I'm going to sell all of my cookbooks out of spite.

then we'll be talking about therapy ;)

I you would go back...and naturally for just more than that 1 cookbook! I've noticed in the past two weeks that I've acquired 6 new cookbooks. It was quiet, subtle and makes me very happy.

PS: I'm officially coveting that Apples for Jam cookbook! It's so unavailable here in the states!

you will often find me curled up on the couch with a cookbook or two -- sometimes i feel like they are the romance novels of our generation! =) i've spent many a sunday afternoon poring over book after book at the Cooks' Library -- it's such a warm cozy place for me.

great meeting you at the writing workshop!

World Vegetarian is one of my favorites and I'm not even vegetarian anymore! You could cook from this book for a very long time without getting bored. Try the Trinidadian Doubles.
And I second the coveting of Apples for Jam.

I love how color coordinated they are too. It makes for a nice picture.
